… and here’s my story.

I am a dog lover. My husband and I have multiple dogs, and we have an active life with them. Having several dogs means finding great gear for them, hopefully that will last. Nearly 10 years ago I started making dog gear as a hobby. The gear I was purchasing for my dogs was often getting dirty, smelly, and not holding up to all the adventures I was having with my dogs.

​I found a material called BioThane. It was created and designed for horse tack, but it is an amazing option for dog gear. BioThane is waterproof, it doesn’t retain smells, it is very durable, strong, easy to clean, doesn’t fade its color, it’s tough, and held up with all the activities I was doing with me dogs. It’s as tough as Alaska is.

​In 2019 I started 49th State Kennels, got my business license and I started participating in vendor shows locally offering the handmade dog gear. My handmade dog gear was becoming popular and started thinking about adding more products that I could offer.

I started with adding Ruffland Performance Kennels. As time went on, 49th State Kennels grew, and I decided I wanted to open a dog shop (pet store). I decided that the dog shop I wanted to open would be my take on a functional dog shop. Focusing on healthy treats/food, dog training equipment, super chewer toys, my handmade BioThane® dog gear, and much more.

​February 2023 I opened the store front along the Palmer-Wasilla Highway in Palmer, AK. When 49th State Kennels Pet Shop first opened, we offered our handmade BioThane® dog gear along with an additional 20 plus items. As of July 2023, 49th State Kennels Pet Shop moved to a larger store front and offering over 80 brands. The dog shop caters to canine professionals and dog owners alike, we want to succeed with your dogs, however that means to you. You & your dog gear need awesome dog hear and we’re here to support you!
